Dancing Stillness is a three-year project exploring Indian dance, movement, and visual culture through photography, video, installation, and performance. Developed through research and photography in India, the project was presented as a solo exhibition at the Wilfrid Israel Museum of Asian Art, curated by Shir Meller-Yamaguchi.
Inspired in part by The Dancer, a nineteenth-century Indian sculpture from the museum’s collection, the project reflects on the body as a meeting point between the physical, the symbolic, and the spiritual. Drawing on the mandala, cyclical movement, and the idea of the body as a point of connection between the physical and the spiritual, Dancing Stillness reflects on movement as a fundamental condition of existence. Within seemingly static frames, gestures repeat, bodies rotate, and images return to themselves, creating a continuous rhythm between flow and rest, the ancient and the contemporary, the individual body and a larger sense of wholeness.
