Invisible City explores the architecture of Jaffa through photography, digital collage, video, and installation. Developed during an artist residency at Beit HaBe’er Cultural Center, the project draws on the city’s layered architectural history, shaped over centuries by cycles of construction, destruction, and reconstruction.

Working with photographs taken throughout Jaffa and within Beit HaBe’er itself, architectural fragments, arches, walls, openings, textures, and decorative details are collected, cut apart, digitally manipulated, and assembled into new structures. The photographic process begins to mirror an architectural one: existing forms are dismantled and rebuilt into imagined compositions that move between documentation and fiction, the recognizable and the fantastical.

The exhibition brings together large-scale photographic collages, site-responsive installations, and video works in which elements of the building are reflected, repeated, rotated, and transformed. Through this process, Jaffa emerges not as a fixed historical city, but as an evolving visual archive, continually reconstructed through layers of time, memory, and imagination.

The Invisible City was presented as a solo exhibition curated by Tal Margalit at Beit HaBe’er Cultural Center, Jaffa, in 2023, following a residency supported by the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality and Mishlama LeYafo.
