Luminaries

Multimedia Installation, video performance, sound, objects

2022

Luminaries is a video and sound project combining practices of body, movement, and breath with telescopic images of the sun. The work explores the relationship between the human body and celestial bodies, between light and darkness, and between the individual and the natural world.

Continuing Smira’s ongoing exploration of life cycles and the tension between movement and stillness, her body becomes a site for artistic action. The sun merges with her image during practices of yoga and meditation, creating an encounter between physical presence and cosmic movement. Through the body, the work moves beyond conceptual thought toward questions of nature, environment, society, and gender.

**Luminaries** was presented as an immersive video and sound installation at The Lab Art Space, Tel Aviv, curated by Sharon Toval.
