Machine Dance explores the mechanics of movement and the relationship between the body and the industrial environment. The work was filmed at night inside a flour mill, when the factory was empty of workers and only the machines continued to operate without interruption.
The video brings together monumental machinery in continuous motion with my own body dancing among it. Through sound, repetition, rhythm, and scale, the work creates a tension between the circular, fluid movement of the female body and the repetitive, mechanical motion of the industrial machines. As these two systems of movement intersect, the body appears at once vulnerable and resilient, searching for its own rhythm within an environment governed by automation and production.
