The Poetics of Space examines architecture as a surface shaped by time, memory, and transformation. Borrowing its title from Gaston Bachelard’s The Poetics of Space, the project echoes his understanding of intimate spaces as vessels for memory, imagination, and inner life. Photographed during an artist residency at HaMiffal in Jerusalem, peeling walls, cracks, openings, stains, and layers of plaster become the raw material for digitally constructed collages in which architectural fragments shift between the recognizable and the abstract.
Through symmetry, repetition, and manipulation, these traces are transformed into images that evoke Rorschach tests, bodily structures, bones, skin, or internal organs. The building begins to resemble a living body, carrying its own history within its surfaces.
Moving between photography, drawing, and digital construction, the works explore the tension between architecture’s impulse toward order and the slow force of decay. The space becomes both physical and psychological, a site where material, imagination, and memory continually reshape one another.
